As the tree’s turn golden so should your milk
How to ward off those sniffles at work, when the weather starts changing
Part of the ginger family, turmeric is a root native to south west India. Used from spicing curries to dying fabrics, but there is more to this golden boy than its infamous golden colour.
My grandmother swore by it, if you had a problem turmeric, could probably sort it. From a grazed knee to a sore throat. Back then I used to loath turmeric milk. I would literally gag and pinch my nose as I’d guzzle the creamy, earthy, golden milk.
How times have changed now I love the stuff and its everywhere in the Soul Deli. Our turmeric latte, made with coconut milk with a little ground cinnamon and cardamom really does sooth your soul. In our recent food innovation session we developed our very own Turmeric Muesli. It lends it self nicely to all things autumnal.
The thing is this stuff really is a wonder root, with an active compound called curcumin. High in antioxidants that help boost your immune system. Its also good for your gut and for your mood;) So now your all smiley and boosted there’s more, its good for your brain! Studies have show it increases and supports healthy levels of a hormone called brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) which plays a role in long term cognitive function.
So yes, when your colleague sitting next to you is sneezing and looks like he really should have stayed in bed. Get yourself a golden Turmeric Latte. You know what they say…grandma knows best!
